What is a Microschool?
Northwood Cottage School is a microschool, an intentionally small learning community serving students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Our program blends strong, direct instruction with meaningful, student-driven learning. Mornings are dedicated to foundational academics, where students build essential skills in reading, writing, and mathematics through structured, teacher-led lessons. In the afternoons, students engage in inquiry and project-based work that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and deeper exploration.
Each cohort is limited to just eight students, allowing us to provide a level of attention, support, and responsiveness that simply isn’t possible in larger classrooms. Our size is a design choice that allows us to truly know each child and teach them well.
Every element of our program is designed to support focused learning, strong relationships, and steady academic growth.
