Drawing on over 15 years of experience gained in diverse educational settings, including public schools, St. John's School, museums, and libraries, Susan Ralls now contributes her expertise to Northwood Cottage School.

As a school leader, Susan is committed to meeting the needs of the entire school community. She values open and effective communication between school and home and celebrates parent involvement. Her vision as school director is to nurture an environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and creatively.

In the classroom, Susan believes in balancing exploration with the structure of routine. A lover of children’s literature, Susan knows that the right book in the right hands can open new worlds for young readers. She is also a strong advocate for the power of play, ensuring that students have plenty of opportunities to explore, move, and build resilience—skills that are essential for success both in school and in life.

With 15 years of experience as a teacher and curriculum developer, Katie Broderick brings a wealth of knowledge to our school community. With experience in both public and independent schools, including her time at St. John's School, she focuses on building strong connections with families and creating a supportive learning environment.

Katie is deeply interested in how neuroscience impacts learning, and she uses this understanding to create a classroom where students thrive. She blends direct instruction with student-driven inquiry, providing the necessary scaffolding to help each child reach their full potential. Her commitment to learner-centered environments means your child will be inspired and empowered to take ownership of their education.

A passionate advocate for developing children's writing skills, Katie believes that strong writers become powerful communicators. She's dedicated to helping students find their voices and use their writing to share their ideas and make a positive impact on the world.
